flutter vs flock

Hello Flutter developers. I was scrollings the twitter / x.com and i show a post about the new Flutter fork and this time is got serious attention. so As Flutter developer myself i got curious about my own flutter future so i did some research about this new Flutter fork and at the end i will share my opinion about what i think about future of flutter.

so let’s start with todays discussion.

Flock : flutter do forked.

yes you read it right new fork of Flutter is called Flock. Flock is a new fork of the Flutter framework. It aims to address some of the limitations of the official Flutter framework, particularly in terms of modularity and performance. The main faces behind this fork are:

  1. Matt Carroll
  2. Jesse Ezell

Official Flock Website : https://flutterfoundation.dev/

Git : https://github.com/Flutter-Foundation/flutter.git

Why Flock invented ?

The core idea behind Flock is to create a more modular and customizable Flutter framework. This means you can pick and choose the components you need for your app, resulting in smaller app sizes and better performance.

So basically Flock is Flutter++. As per its official document it will be in sync with Flutter but also will have advance community feature too.

There was problem with Flutter that when someone find bug or need some feature in offical Flutter framework they have to rais issue on github and it will take months to get approved and developed. To solve this issues Matt decided to step up and solve this.

That is why Flock’ tag line is

Flutter, by the community,
for the community

Advantages of Flock:

  • Modularity: Break down your app into smaller, independent modules.
  • Performance: Smaller app size, faster startup times.
  • Customization: Tailor the framework to your specific needs.

What is My opinion on this ?

Note that i am Flutter developer myself right and i love developing apps with flutter. and i don’t think flutter is dying. Flutter has bright future because it continues to be a powerful and popular framework for building beautiful, high-performance apps. With its strong community and rapid development.

While Flock is still in its early stages, it has the potential to revolutionize Flutter development. It’s important to keep an eye on its progress and consider its benefits for your future projects.

Share your thoughts on this. i will see you in the next article.

Enjoy coding. ☺️
